Save the Space Center (please?)

In my hometown, there is a nonprofit organization which was (until recently) operating out of an elementary school. Officially called the Christa McAuliffe Space Education Center, the "Space Center" was a unique and awesome part of my childhood and adolescence.

I have gone to the space center several times. Each time has been a breathtaking and eye-opening experience (even the "Intolerance" mission which was admittedly stale and predictable). We took up roles as crewmembers and officers on a Star Trek themed spaceship simulator. Once briefed and in uniform, we boarded our ship, and embarked, boldly going where no man has gone before.

But it was educational. Aside from learning about real astronomy and physics throughout the course of the mission, we learned teamwork and how to work under pressure.

And now the school district has closed it.

Their major concern is safety. This is valid. According to their official news statement, there are major electrical faults which would cost $700K to repair -- money they are not willing to spend when plans for a new independent facility are in the works. But that's just it; they're only plans. That new facility can't be finished in less than five years (as last I heard), and it will probably never happen now that all independent funding to the program has been put in a tourniquet.

I share all this, because we can make a difference. By making noise. Already, the public outcry has caused the district to release a news statement, and local politicians are proclaiming their ability to save the Space Center (what with the election coming up).

I want more than that. They didn't close the elementary school, they only quarantined the simulators. Two of those simulators are perfectly safe and operational. I want those to be open, and action to be taken to rescue the Space Center, which to me is a symbol of the very best and possibly the future of education.

So, even though you may live far away. Even though you may never be affected by the Space Center specifically, I ask you to help in our effort to save it, because it's worth saving. Please join with us in our effort to save the Space Center.

EDIT: The latest news (11/26/2012) is that, while two of the ships --- the Odyssey and the Voyager --- remain closed, the other three --- the Phoenix, the Magellan, and tbe Galileo II --- are to be reopened. Plans are also being accelerated for the new Space Center building to be constructed. I don't know when these things are going to be brought about.

≤Relevant: Zeldanime Contest

Zeldanime is a fanmade web comic series that's a completely epic anime style rendition of the kinda lame
'80s Legend of Zelda cartoon.*
*Clarification: Zeldanime is completely epic, in spite of the fact that the cartoon is lame. Forgive my ambiguous wording, my brain is under the weather.

They themselves have a number of fans, and so they will occasionally have a fanart contest. This is my entry for their latest one:

I didn't make an EV this week because I was working on this instead.

How to make your own Nyan Cat using free tools

By Riley Hulick
This article is Windows-friendly. Most of the software exists in some form for Mac and Linux, but FormatFactory serves as a bit of a hitch for our non-Microsoft friends. I'm looking into alternatives for your behalf, but please be patient as I am picky, therefore it may take some time.

  • Update (10/27/12): I have high hopes for an online video-converter called Zamzar to be the solution to the platform problem. I've sent them a feature request, and they are looking into it.

This article also requires basic computer literacy. You’ll have to know how to use a computer’s file system, how to download and install applications, and how to use drop-down menus and dialogues. Don’t panic. I’ll walk you through it.

The purpose of a meme is to be passed along. Elaborated. Expounded. Image macros get passed along a great deal, with plenty of variation, because they’re easy to work with. Some memes, such as Nyan Cat, are harder to work with, and so we see fewer variations, usually made by only the most skilled people with the best tools.
Well, it doesn’t have to be that way. I’ve spent weeks putting together this article so I can show you how to make your own brand new and completely original Nyan Cat, by yourself, all for free.

I've decided what I'm going to do with my dA page.

A few weeks ago, I got my hands on a deviantART page. http://evcomics.deviantart.com
I have posted exactly one picture on it, so it's suffering somewhat from neglect.

However, I have decided exactly what I'm going to do with it.

From now on, I'll start posting my comics there. Good comics spread around dA pretty well, so I like the idea. However, I will wait a week after putting it on this website before putting it on dA (kinda like how I usually wait a few hours before posting them on Facebook. Oh? Didn't you know?) This is just to make sure that people actually come by my website, instead of relying on dA to get all the comics. As I maintain this weekly schedule, there will always be one more that is not on dA.

And remember, this website is always your first source for EV.

I'm so clever.

Edit: We also have a Tumblr page. The rules are the same.

More old sketches!

So, this is where my "or a good excuse" clause comes in. I am currently working on a more-elaborate-than-normal EV for you, but because it is not finished, I have decided to show you more of the sketches from my original EV sketchbook. These are some of the original character designs I made, as well as the original story sketches I had planned, starting where I left off from my previous sketch-dump, links to which can be found here:
Sketches page 5 #12, Original sketches #13-14
Sketches page 6 Original sketches #15-16
Sketches page 7 Original sketches #17-19

And then, of course, here are the new updates.

Voila. This isn't a thorough scouring of my many high school notebooks, so there are inevitably going to be more such doodles in the future, but I think this is sufficient for now.
